My first real post

OK, I gotta say this blogging stuff may be more trouble than it's worth. I am sure it is all operator error, but it's frustrating to say the least. Yesterday, I started my bog, but didn't post it, because I was waiting for the Internet. Two devices can't be on the internet at the same time. So if Rich is on I can't be on. I wrote up all about our travel to Singapore. Today, when I have the Internet, my blog from yesterday has disappeared. Poop, I have to start over. So here goes nothing, again.

Getting to Singapore is a long journey. We left the house at about five PM, driven by our house sitter extrodenair, Brandon Moore. We of course got to the airport super early, because that's how my husband rolls. We will never, let me repeat, never be late for a flight. It's rather annoying, but he's got a point. If something were to go wrong, we'd have the time to fix it.

He gets this trait from his dad. I will never forget the first time I met his parents. It was December 1980, we were engaged to married in February and I had yet to meet his parents. So we spent Christmas with them in California. While we were there, his mom gave us a set of sterling silver silverware. Since it was worth a ton of money, we put it in our carry on bag. When it went through the X-ray machine  all the knives showed up. Well, security had a fit. We can't  carry all those knives on the plane we might try to hijack the plane. Sheesh, remember this was 1980 way before 9/11. So, we had to take all the knives out of the silverware box, put them in a shoebox, tape it up, and send it as checked luggage. Now if my future father in law had not gotten us to the airport super early, we would have missed our flight.  So therefore we are always early to every flight.

So the first flight was a short one. We only had to fly to Chicago. Of course we did have a problem right off the bat. Our suitcase was over weight by 3 pounds. I took out my pillow, I have to have my thin pillow on this cruise cuz I couldn't possible go 5 months with out my pillow, and we were fine. But now I have to carry my pillow with me. There we had a couple hour layover before the next flight. Since we were headed to China the bulk of the passengers were Chinese. A very cute older Chinese lady struck up a conversation with us. We spen most of. Layover chatting with her. She was very interested in hearing about our trip. As I looked around the terminal, I actually noticed some of the people had cruise tags on their carry on bags that indicated they were going to be on the same cruise as us. Wow.

Now, at this point I have to complain. In a previous blog I wrote about how Cathay Pacific only allows 22 pounds in a carry on and you can only have one carry on. You aren't even allowed to carry a purse along with you. So here Rich and I are lugging these 22 pound gym bags because we could not use our roller bags because they were too heavy. So Since I now have to carry my pillow, I am afraid I will not be allowed to carry it on board. So I'm looking around the gate area and I notice everyone and I mean everyone is carrying second bag. Now here's the thing, we could have taken our roller bags, packed less in them, and then had a second bag, like a backpack, to put the rest of the stuff into. Now I'm kind of pissed. I have to carry a 22 pound bag, instead of rolling one.  And that bag is heavy.

We got on the plane about 11:30 and we took off at midnight and were promptly served a glass of champagne, my kind of flying. It was to be a 14 hour flight. I would never have made it if we hadn't flown business class. Wow, Cathay Pacific, the airlines we were flying on knows how to do this right. Our seats laid down completely flat to facilitate sleeping. We had a nice pillow and a down comforter. Since it was midnight, I just set my bed, took a sleeping aid, and went off to dream land. Now Rich stayed up and had dinner. He said it was very nice with wine and everything. I didn't mind. I was tired and ready to sleep. So I slept for several hours.

When I awoke. I read. When the battery died on my iPad I tried to plug it in, but it wouldn't charge :( So I watched a movie. Being in business class, I had really nice headphones and a really nice TV. So now we only had a few hours to go before we land in Hong Kong. Before we landed they served us a very nice breakfast.

We finally landed. Then we had to change terminals to find our next flight. This involved a train and a lot of walking lugging the damn gym bag. We finally found our gate and waited for our next flight. Man, this would have been so much easier if we had left on the cruise from Miami. Oh well. We finally got on the last plane for he 3 and 1/2 hour flight to Singapore. Again, we were in business class. Not quite as nice as the last flight but it would do in a pinch. We were served a really nice breakfast on this flight. I had dim sum, yummy.

We arrived in Singapore and got on a bus for the cruise ship. We got into our cabin around four I. The afternoon. So I think that makes it three in the morning in Michigan. It was a long assed trip, but we are on the ship. So, I will write of our adventures in Singapore later. So chow for now
